Mayor of Incheon Visits Wycombe Abbey to Formalise Plans for New School in South Korea

Last week, Wycombe Abbey was honoured to welcome the Mayor of Incheon, Yoo Jeong-bok, to the School as part of his official visit to the United Kingdom.  

The visit marked an important milestone in the developing partnership between Wycombe Abbey and one of South Korea’s most dynamic and fast‑growing international cities, Incheon, which is preparing for a major expansion of its global education landscape. Central to this vision is the introduction of a Wycombe Abbey School within the Incheon Economic Free Zone (IFEZ), an area dedicated to fostering world‑class education, innovation and international partnerships. 

During his time at Wycombe Abbey, Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok toured several areas of the School, including Wendover House, Pitt House and Rubens House and the Davies Sports Centre, gaining a first‑hand understanding of the School’s academic environment, boarding life and facilities. The visit offered him insight into the School’s educational ethos and the values that underpin its distinctive approach to nurturing pupils’ personal and academic development. 

The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Mayor Yoo and Peter Warren, Chairman of Wycombe Abbey’s Governing Council, formalising their shared commitment to progressing the establishment of Wycombe Abbey in Incheon. The agreement outlines a commitment to meeting all regulatory requirements, maintaining close cooperation with the Incheon Economic Free Zone Authority (IFEZ), and ensuring that the development reflects the high standards associated with Wycombe Abbey’s educational model. Both parties emphasised the importance of creating an environment in Incheon that mirrors the School’s core values, academic excellence and holistic approach to pupils’ personal development.
