Our School

Located by the beautiful West Taihu Lake, Wycombe Abbey International Changzhou opened as the first Wycombe Abbey school outside of the UK in 2016. Changzhou is situated in Southern Jiangsu province, approximately 180km from Shanghai. The school is a British-style co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 3-18 years, and the current enrollment stands at just over 1,200 students with a capacity for 1,400 students.

Everything the school does prepares the pupils to enter the world’s leading universities and be successful in their future careers. The school teaches in an exciting and dynamic style and develops the potential of each and every pupil. The curriculum is a blend of the best of British and the best of Chinese, including the renowned Jiangsu Mathematics curriculum, giving an excellent educational foundation before pupils move on to study the British syllabus for iGCSE and A level – widely recognised as the best in the world. Like the leading UK schools, the timetable is designed to give the pupils a varied and challenging experience.

The Wycombe Abbey International Changzhou campus covers an area of 25 acres and has state-of-the-art facilities with three distinctive round buildings housing the sports centre and arts and drama departments. The campus has a fully equipped theatre, 400-metre outdoor running track, inflatable air dome sports stadium, indoor basketball courts, multiple floodlit tennis courts, indoor sports fields, a purpose-built water sports centre and swimming pools and as it is situated by a lake, it has world-class rowing facilities. For music, there are smaller performance, rehearsal and ensemble rooms, practice rooms, music teaching classrooms, and a jam room complete with the latest technology for all electronic instruments. Pupils have endless opportunities to participate and perform in sport, music and drama.

With so many extracurricular opportunities, many of the Primary and almost all of the Secondary pupils choose to board. Boarding is in spacious, comfortable rooms with common rooms for relaxation. Boarding staff are chosen for their classroom expertise and pastoral understanding.

From the Executive Headmaster, Paul Silverwood

'It is a real privilege to be the Headmaster of Wycombe Abbey International Changzhou. I believe that a happy child will learn better, and so all staff must build up a deep knowledge of the pupils so that we can encourage them to become confident, assured and prepared for the very competitive world that lies ahead of them.'
